Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro review: Your post-workout companion

The pandemic has not only pushed people to be more active and lead healthy lives, but also spawned several tech fitness brands. One such brand is Hyperice, which entered the Indian market in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company offers a wide range of smart products to relax your body after training or after a long day at work. Basically, it aims to help you get rid of your back pain after sitting in front of your PC for long hours. And, I have to say, it surely lives up to its claims.

I have been using Hyperice Hypervolt 2 Pro for a while and really loved the product as it helps reduce muscle stiffness in just 10-15 minutes of use. Of course, relief comes at a price. The Hypervolt 2 Pro has a price tag of Rs 38,999, which not many people would like to spend on a gadget like this. The company apparently understands this and is offering an affordable option in the form of Hypervolt Go 2 for Rs 18,999.

Now, with a good price also comes great features. This smart body muscle massager allows users to connect it to their mobile phone using the application called Hyperice App which is available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It is quite easy to connect the massager to the app. Just turn on Bluetooth > find device > and you’re done. The good thing about the app is that it provides great suggestions by tracking your movements throughout the day. By tracking, I mean it tracks your movement using the Apple Health app and shares suggestions accordingly.

In my case, it tracked that I had been through heavy training at the gym and shared suggestions accordingly. The app asks for permission to access the health app, and it’s up to you whether or not to provide access.

While the app shared recommendations based on my movements throughout the day, I mostly used the basic attachment as it was enough to relax my tight muscles after a day on my chest, back, or legs.

However, I believe the speed could have been slightly lower. There are 5 speed levels but the lowest was too heavy for me so I had to be very careful not to use it on bony areas or weaker body parts like the neck. There are also a few additional attachments that come with the machine for different body parts, but for me, the basic one was fine almost all the time.

After using the smart massager for the past few weeks I have overall found it to be great for large muscle groups like legs and back and not so much for smaller muscles due to the high acoustic vibrations.

One problem, however: the use of the device for back massage by one person is difficult. Balancing and using the massager in areas like the neck, shoulders and back can be slightly awkward without someone’s help. Personally, I also found the massage roller to be heavier. This I think should be a problem for people with heavier builds and bigger muscles, but for me it wasn’t always practical.

What I really liked, however, was the battery life. On a single charge, the Hypervolt 2 Pro lasted almost 10 days for me. I mainly used the massager for about 15 minutes a day, mostly after training.

Should I buy it?

The concept of smart massager is still evolving in India and Hyperice is one of the early adopters of the trend. Probably because of this, its products are also a bit expensive. The Hypervolt 2 Pro is currently the most expensive model offered by the company in India. Is it worth the price? Well, I think if you are one of those people who spend a lot of time in the gym and often suffer from muscle pain, it might be worth it for you.
