The mother of a newborn has shared a tip that she says “works every time” to keep babies from crying instantly.
Posting the video on TikTok, the mom – who goes by @ibmslady – promised her swaddling technique was “mom’s best hack for new moms.”
The video has been viewed over 7.2 million times and shows the woman holding her crying baby in her arms.
As she demonstrates the technique, she explains, “So what you’re going to do is change your baby’s position in front of you and turn him around slowly.
“Mae makes sure their arms are crossed in the swaddle. Make sure their necks are also supported so they can breathe.
“Gently roll them back and forth and I promise you it works every time!”
After a few seconds of holding her baby in the specific way she described, the baby seems to have calmed down and completely stopped crying.
The TikTok video garnered nearly 7,500 comments, with many grateful parents thanking her for demonstrating the hack.
One person wrote: “My baby is a month old today and I needed it this morning!”
Another joked, “So you’re saying they’re fed up with looking us in the face?”
Even people who didn’t have children found the video informative, with one commentator saying, “Why did I watch everything, I don’t even have a child?”
Swaddling is a technique used to wrap newborns comfortably in a cloth or blanket so that they feel secure, mimicking conditions inside the womb, according to the National Childbirth Trust (NCT).
However, parents should be aware that swaddling babies carries certain risks if done improperly. They can get too hot if they are too tight or in too many blankets, or are at risk of developing hip dysplasia.
