Seeing Kohli’s difficulty on the international circuit, former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja pointed to a flaw in the Indian skipper’s technique.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli is arguably the best drummer of the modern era. However, for the past year the right-hander has not had much success with the willow tree. Kohli’s last century came against Bangladesh in November 2019 and since then the skipper is still looking for his 71st international cent. Since November 2019, Virat has competed in no less than 44 rounds, scoring 1646 points with an average of 43.31 and recording 17 half centuries.
Seeing Kohli’s difficulty on the international circuit, former Pakistani cricketer Ramiz Raja pointed to a flaw in the Indian skipper’s technique. Raja believes Virat shouldn’t play crossing the line breaking his wrist, instead he should play straight. However, the commentator is not very concerned about Kohli as he is convinced that the batting maestro knows what to do and how to improve.
“What I’ve seen in his stick lately, he’s been playing cross the line to the side of the leg, breaking his wrist. If he maintains his position and plays straight, then plays his strokes, then that won’t be a problem anymore. However, he knows what to do. So there is nothing to worry about, ”Raja told India News Sports.
“Sometimes you think a lot and put yourself under pressure not to run or have centuries. As long as he plays the first 20-25 in a straight line and doesn’t break his wrist much, he can pull it off [WTC Final] Test match, “he added.
Further in the interaction, Raja spoke out on the final of the inaugural edition of the World Trials Championship, scheduled for June 18-22 in Southampton between India and New Zealand. The Pakistani veteran believes the format adopted by the International Cricket Council is not the right way to welcome the league. Raja want the ICC to play the Test World Championship in an exclusive six-month window where no other format is played.
The tournament got interesting just because India is in the final: Ramiz Raja
“I think the World Trials Championship should have taken place in a completely different window. A six-month window during which the teams could have faced each other. Other formats should not have been done in this window, because if you want to elevate Test cricket, this type of window has to be created, ”said Ramiz Raja.
There is a lot of buzz regarding the World Test Championship final as the cricket fraternity seems divided over who will become the test champion between India and New Zealand. The 58-year-old credited India with creating a hype around the WTC.
“The two-year span is quite long and people might forget who played who. The tournament got interesting just because India is in the final. If it had been another team playing against New Zealand, there wouldn’t have been so much interest, ”he concluded.
