Dying Light 2 will take 500 hours to “completely”

Techland has confirmed that it will take players around 500 hours to fully complete their upcoming zombie horror and survival game, Dying Light 2. The studio shared the news via a tweet, claiming it was “- almost as well. a long time it would take him to walk from Warsaw to Madrid! ”

Sadly, the tweet did not elicit the positive response Techland had hoped for, with fans complaining about how difficult a goal was. Games that add an overwhelming amount of mechanics and missions on top of the main story usually tend to make the overall experience worse. Simply put, if a player is trying to complete the primary task and the game is constantly pinging side missions or generic fills, they lose momentum and take away the overall immersion.

In response to the outcry, Techland launched a series of tweets aimed at clearing up any confusion. According to the studio, “500 hours” is tied to “getting the most out of the game,” which includes completing all quests, multiple endings, and exploring each part of the story. Most players, who only care about the campaign, should be able to beat it in under 100 hours, or more accurately, 70 to 80 hours, depending on the difficulty level they choose.

Despite the clarification, some players have already started canceling pre-orders, while others have pointed out that no game could ever justify a 500-hour run. For comparison, the 2015 prequel has been released, the main story of Dying Light was approximately 17.5 hours, while 100% execution would take 55 hours.

Developed by Techland, Dying Light 2 is set 20 years after the events at Harran, where humans lost the battle against the virus outbreak. The story takes place in a large open urban world – four times the size of the original game, which is divided into seven regions. Throughout the game, players encounter different factions and settlements and will have to make survival-based choices that will change the state of the city and how people feel about the protagonist, Aiden.

Much like its predecessor, the title is built on a free running experience, featuring over 3,000 unique parkour animations and a range of upgradeable makeshift weapons to hunt down infected people. The game also features a recurring day-to-night cycle, infection-induced superhuman skills, and a four-player online co-op mode. The title was recently overtaken by Ancient ring to become the most popular game on Steam after a one-year streak.

Dying Light 2 launches on February 4 on current and next-gen consoles and Windows PCs through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The developers also promised a “huge drop in information” on January 13, via their live broadcast of the latest update.
